Discovered April 2013 - Embassy Suites Miramar Beach
See my post about our stay here for a few more details on how I discovered this gem. The best things about this hotel for my family was the location and layout. It sits right across the street from the beach - but with direct beach access. There is a beach store next door, and of course the breakfast included. The omelette chef there when we stayed was great. They even have their dining and a menu available for lunch and dinner so you don't have to leave the hotel to scour for food. We ate their both nights trying to keep life simple.
The hotel has all the rooms open to the center so you can see almost the entire lobby from your door, practically.
While we did choose to dine here for both nights, the service is painfully slow. Don't expect to be in and out quickly since the wait staff seemed to include one waiter/waitress and 2 runners/bussers. But at least the food was pretty good. The quesadillas are great and plentiful. Skip the calamari unless you know you can get them hot.
There is an outdoor pool adjacent to the hotel but you have to go outside and then back through a gate to get in. It isn't very large and is pretty much a rectangle but the kids had fun in it. When you have a beach that close, I guess you don't sink your money into a hole in the ground.
And of course this is in the gulf area so the beaches are great. White sugar sand that is smooth and feels good between the toes. We rented beach umbrellas and chairs and they even offered half day rates if you got it after noon or planned on leaving before noon.
The manager's reception is pretty good. Free drinks - including bar drinks and beer, and some light snacks like popcorn, chips, dip. My sex on the beach both nights was tasty. My daughter got a Shirley Temple she enjoyed as well.
We often seek out Embassy Suites and now this place is on our list for driveable destinations from Atlanta.
