We piled the house into our mid-sized SUV, while promising to get a roof rack before our next trip, and started the 6 plus hour drive to the start of sand in our toes, and other unseen places.
My daughter had a blast. The hotel we chose (and I almost don't want to give it up, because it is a gem) was the Embassy Suites in Miramar and because it is an Embassy Suites, plenty of families with kids were there. My daughter had her choice of playmates and the hotel design made it possible for her and the other pre-teeners/tweeners to hang out in the lobby or on the floors and we could peak out our door, look over the balcony and check on them. Thankfully she hasn't gotten to the 'mom, you're embarrassing me' phase....yet.
My son enjoyed the sand and little shovels. Though he preferred to bring the sand to our beach mat, taste test it, and try to put it in our hair, he was beach happy.
The weather was fine for laying out (uh, no this momma did NOT get in the water!) and enjoying the natural beach therapy. Nothing like an ocean of water, waves, seagulls overhead, and sand to bring you back to a place of peace. Even, if you are trying to prevent a toddler from gobbling sand and a tweener from drifting 50 yards while she body surfs.
